Our Story

Fred Yang, Peter Hart, and Geoff Garin.

Since our founding in 1971, Hart Research has been at the cutting edge of strategic and public opinion research and we have always maintained a commitment to putting our clients first.

Whether you are a nonprofit, a business, an advocacy organization, or a candidate for political office, you must be able to communicate effectively with the audiences that are most important to your success. To do this, you must identify those audiences and what they care about. You need to recognize the points at which their sympathies and yours connect and diverge. You must understand how they make choices and decisions. You need to know what shapes and informs their attitudes and actions. This knowledge—key to every successful communications strategy—is what Hart Research helps create. We listen to people—face-to-face, online, and by phone—to learn what motivates them. We ask the right questions and use our background and expertise to turn data into informed decisions and winning choices.

Our Promise

  • Quality and rigor. We are committed to quality data collection, innovative analysis, and seamless implementation of research methodologies. Quality and rigor drive our structure, our processes, and our culture.
  • Client-first philosophy. As fully dedicated partners, we are available as needed, whether for formal meetings, for planning or brainstorming sessions, or for informal consultation.
  • Decisive strategic guidance. Our goal is not merely to provide interesting information; we deliver the useful insights and relevant decision-making recommendations on which successful planning is built.

About Hart Research

Hart Research Associates is one of the leading research firms in the United States and has been at the cutting edge of change in public opinion since our founding in 1971. During that time, we have conducted more than 8,000 public opinion surveys and 7,500 focus groups and in-depth interviews, talking with more than five million individuals across the United States and beyond. In addition to conducting research among everyday Americans, voters, and consumers, we routinely interview elite audiences. These include C-suite decisionmakers, senior government officials, and thought leaders across a full range of disciplines, both nationally and abroad.

Our clients include organizations from virtually every major sector of society, including candidates for public office and political parties, labor unions, the nonprofit and policy advocacy sector, business, health and medicine, technology, journalism, law, education, the arts, and major agencies of the federal government. Since 1989, a highlight of our work has been our regular public opinion polling for NBC News and The Wall Street Journal, which we have conducted jointly with Republican partners over the years. These surveys are regarded widely as leading barometers of American opinion.

In all our work, we have demonstrated commitment and creativity in designing research that provides meaningful and compelling insights, and in using our expertise to translate these insights into clear strategy.
