We help our clients fight today’s most important fights, including protecting democracy, reproductive rights, affordable health care, public education, voting rights, and the environment.

Union and Worker Rights

Hart Research is the leading opinion research firm for organized labor in America, with a labor practice dating back to the firm’s founding in 1971. Since then, we have conducted more than 600 research projects for labor unions, including in-depth membership research for more than a dozen international unions.

From the AFL-CIO, AFSCME, SEIU, AFT, the National Domestic Workers Alliance, and the Bricklayers to the Directors Guild of America and Major League Baseball Players Association, Hart Research partners with organizations fighting for workers’ rights. Teachers. Nurses. Painters. Janitors. Government employees. And the issues? Contract employment. The minimum wage. Long-term care. The gig economy. Political communications. Membership benefits. Political attitudes of union members. Our expertise on all these issues is deep and longstanding.

Climate Change and the Environment

We’re proud of the research we’ve done for environmental and conservation organizations over the years. We have demonstrated skill, insight, and creativity in helping clients understand the complexities related to climate change, public lands, renewable energy, clean energy, trade, carbon tax policy. We’ve also focused on how to mobilize the next generation of climate activists.

We have been privileged to assist many clients in this arena in identifying and developing successful message strategies to achieve their specific goals, including the Sierra Club, the National Wildlife Federation, the National Parks Conservation Association, the National Park Service, BlueGreen Alliance, Climate Power, and the League of Conservation Voters.

Social Justice

Racial justice. Reproductive rights. LGBTQ+ rights. Immigrant rights. Hart Research has been at the forefront of efforts to advance equality and justice for all since the firm’s inception, more than 50 years ago. We have conducted hundreds of research projects to understand and track changes in public attitudes and opinion on civil rights, gender equality, immigrant justice, economic justice, voting rights, criminal justice reform, and reproductive rights. We understand the underlying and intersecting structural elements that are the foundation of inequity and inequality within our society.

More than simply measuring public opinion, we are skilled at designing and conducting research to help our clients grow support for and engagement in public policies that will help achieve the goal of a more just and equitable America.

Our work has helped inform the development of communication campaigns targeted to persuadable voters to grow public support, as a hook for media coverage, and to share with state and federal policymakers to demonstrate electoral support for specific policies. We have worked with many clients to this end, including ACLU, Fair Fight, Color of Change, Demand Justice, Black Economic Alliance, Alliance for Justice, the Center for American Progress, National Immigration Law Center (NILC), Human Rights Campaign (HRC), virtually every reproductive rights organization, regional and international labor unions, and major foundations, just to name a few.

Education

Hart Research has conducted extensive public opinion research on education issues for leading organizations, including for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the American Federation of Teachers, Learning Heroes, the College Board, TeachStrong, the First Five Years Fund, CASEL, the Educational Testing Service, UNCF, and the James Irvine Foundation. Through this work, we have developed a keen understanding of the nuances of asking Americans about issues related to education in general and for their children in particular.

Many projects for these clients have included research among parents on a variety of issues, including to understand parents’ hopes and fears regarding their children’s education, their impressions of their children’s schools and teachers, their sense of their children’s academic progress, how they support their children’s learning, their feelings about selected innovations in instruction and the role of technology in education, as well as their attitudes regarding potential and enacted education policy reforms.

This important body of research helps UNCF uplift the critical voices of these valuable stakeholders in the education system. We are thankful for their partnership.
