Trump’s Job and Economic Approval Remain Steady While Trade with China Continues to Be a Contentious Issue

June 13, 2019 by Hart Research Leave a Comment

Our latest CNBC All-America Economic Survey finds that President Trump’s job approval and economic approval remain constant, with 40% of voters approving of the job he is doing as president and 48% approving of the job he is doing handling the economy, numbers nearly identical to those in our March survey. As Trump’s trade war goes on, Americans are hesitant about China—32% say that China is an economic threat (up from 25% in June 2018), while 35% say China is an economic opportunity and 24% say it is neither a threat nor an opportunity. Additionally, 56% of Americans say that China has an unfair trade policy with the United States. Though Americans express concern about China, a plurality (40%) oppose Trump’s China tariffs, only 28% support the tariffs, and 32% are not sure or have no opinion.
